Enhancing Your Notes with Bold and Italic Formatting
You can now enrich your notes by adding bold or italic formatting to emphasize important information. This guide will help you understand how to apply these formatting styles effectively within your templates.

How to Format Text in Your Templates
Bold Text
To make text bold, wrap the content with double asterisks **.
Example: Typing
**Important Heading**will display as Important Heading.
Italicize Text
To italicize text, wrap the content with underscores _.
Example: Typing
_"Regards, Dr. Jane Smith"_will display as Regards, Dr. Jane Smith.
Formatting Within Placeholders and Instructions
When using formatting within placeholders (e.g., [Placeholder]) or instructions (e.g., (Instruction)), the standard bold ** and italic _ shortcuts may not work as expected. In these cases, specify the desired formatting within the tool's instructions.
Example:
[Today's Date - Italicized]will apply italics to the date within the template.
Applying Formatting Based on Conditions
You can apply formatting dynamically based on certain conditions in your notes.
Bold Significant Terms or Actions:
For instance, you might want to bold medication names in a referral letter.
Example: [Past Medical Histroy](If medication mentioned, bold the name of the medication)
Italicize Important Instructions:
Use italics to highlight critical instructions that patients should follow carefully.
Examples:
(For Medication dosage instructions, write in Italics) might display as Take 1 tablet daily.
(for follow-up, actions or steps that the patient should follow, write in italics.) might display as Follow up with your GP for a mental health plan update.
Combining Complex Instructions
Using AI instructions, you can get your templates to really do a lot for you. One amazing use case may be to wrap these conditions in a single instruction, eg.
Examples:
(For mentions of medications in this referral letter, provide the medication names in bold, recommended dosage should be in Italics)
(Important notes to patient should always be italicised, examples of instructions you may italicise as follows: "Take 1 tablet daily", or "Follow-up with your GP for Mental Health Plan update" these are just examples, you may italicise any text that could be taken as an important instruction to a patient)
Copying Notes with Formatting
With the release of Rich text formatting, we have needed to provide a copy/paste function that can apply for many contexts.
We have introduced new options for copying your notes with formatting. When you click the Copy button, you can select from the following options:
Copy as Plain Text: Copies the text without any formatting.
Copy with Formatting (without lists): Copies the text with bold and italics but excludes list formatting.
Recommended Option
Copy with Formatting (with lists): Copies the text with all formatting, including lists.
To select an option, click the dropdown arrow next to the Copy button and choose your preferred method. The system will remember your last selection the next time you copy.
Final Tips
Test Your Formatting:
Always review the formatting in the final document to ensure it displays as intended.
Experiment with Copy Options:
Different fields or applications may handle formatting differently when pasting. If the formatting doesn't appear as expected, try a different copy option.
